A few weeks ago, LA President Fabiola Galvan Torres was a panelist at the Girls in STEM event at the Downey Space Center. A teacher from Fedde International Studies Academy, Ms. Susie Gomez, was so impressed, she asked if a SWHS member could do a similar presentation at her school. Francisco Torres was more than happy to oblige! He did a fantastic job sharing his love of reptiles and insects with the students, helping them to appreciate animal and nature. Well done Francisco! Two herpetology experiences offered summer 2018:
1. Cal Poly Herpetology Course
This 3-week course is open to college students. Prerequisite: college-level introductory biology. Students will earn 4 quarter units or 3 semester units (upper division) for BIO S324 (Herpetology). The 3-week course will take place July 17-Aug 3, 2018. Weeks 1 and 3 (July 17-20, July 30-Aug 3) will take place on the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo campus. Week 2 (July 22-27) will take place at the Southwestern Research Station in Portal, Arizona. SWHS members! Bring your herps and join us for a fun day of Education Outreach at the San Dimas Ho'olaule'a Festival. Enjoy continuous Polynesian music and dancing, many any fun booths with crafts, nature education, all to support the San Dimas Canyon Nature Center animals! Please contact us at [email protected] to sign up and let us know which animals you will be bringing and which day you'd like to attend. This will be outdoors under a canopy. This is a fun relaxing show with beautiful music.

Set up is at 9 am. The show runs 10 am to 6 pm, however we can break down as early as 4 pm on Saturday and 3 pm on Sunday. Feel free to bring your own ice chests full of water and snacks. Lunch will be provided...

If we have a large group, they will move us outdoors in the shade.

The SGV Chapter invites you to meet an exciting speaker on Thursday, February 15th. Come enjoy a prehistoric presentation by American artist and illustrator William Stout. Mr. Stout specializes in paleontological art, has worked in over thirty feature films and has painted twelve large murals depicting the prehistoric life of San Diego for the San Diego Natural History Museum.
